A Book That Captures the Rock-and-Roll Story

Pearl Jam is one of America’s most accomplished and revered rock bands. Their journey from fledgling grunge band to rock-and-roll stalwart is full of twists and turns. To celebrate their twentieth anniversary, the band released in-depth autobiographies from each member’s point of view, chronicling Pearl Jam’s rise from the garage to some of the world’s biggest stages.

The goal for Pearl Jam Twenty was to create a tour-scrapbook feel with full-color photos and varied found-text formats — including lyric sheets, concert posters, liner notes and artwork. This required a sophisticated layout to intersperse those elements with essays and band member remembrances. It also meant selecting a premium uncoated paper with the right basis weight and finish to support both color and black-and-white elements without blemishes or defects.

The use of Accent paper created a book that captured the DIY nature of the band and their two decades of music, giving readers a rare peek behind the curtain at a group of rock musicians at the peak of their powers.
